In step with the expected greater impact of climate change on large parts of Danish society, there will be a growing need for research into climate change adaptation. This research will create knowledge about climate change in Denmark and form the basis for appropriate and long-term decisions on climate change adaptation.

The Danish climate change adaptation strategy   established a coordination unit for climate change adaptation research.

This unit will supply validated climate and climate-impact data, as well as specific research results of relevance to climate change adaptation.  Data and results will be presented on this portal.

The unit is also to coordinate and create overview of existing research in climate adaptation in Denmark, as well as give specialist input to decision-making processes in the form of scientific data, scenarios, newsletters, guidelines and workshops.

The Coordination Unit for Research in Climate Change Adaptation is a three-pronged structure consisting of:

• a steering committee
• a secretariat
• a research-technical advisory panel

The steering committee  works for quality, continuity and transparency in the unit’s work, and to ensure the required administrative and financial basis. The control group is headed by Dorthe Nøhr Pedersen , Managing Director of Movia. Movia is transport company responsible for the planning of bus, flex and local train traffic in eastern Denmark.

The research-technical advisory panel ensures that Danish research efforts are in line with international research and development. The panel consists of key persons from Danish and international research environments.

The secretariat coordinates research activities and communicates data and research results to this portal and to the Information Centre for Climate Change Adaptation. The secretariat is headed by Henning Høgh Jensen, Director of the Research Department at the National Environmental Research Institute.
