Frequently asked questions

Will climate change place greater demands on the emergency services?

Answer: Yes, more frequent and more severe storms, heavy downpours and periods with drought may augment the need for emergency assistance. In the longer term, the different sectors will have to adapt sewers, watercourses and similar to climate change, thereby mitigating some of the greater demands on the emergency services.

Will equipment and crew in local emergency services have to be adapted to altered weather conditions?

Answer: The altered conditions that climate change may bring are not substantially different from those today. However, the emergency services will probably be called out more often and, in some cases, to more demanding situations. Emergency crews are already well trained, so there is no immediate need for more training. Local emergency services equipment may however need to be adapted, depending on the risks in the local area.

How is The Danish National Rescue Preparedness adapting to climate change?

Answer: The Danish National Rescue Preparedness is continuously analysing the risks facing Danish society and is ready and prepared to respond to any emergency situation. However, it is extremely important that society constantly endeavours to prevent e.g. floods, rather than merely relying on the emergency and rescue services to step in when the damage has been done.
